Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and gather your other ingredients.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the rigatoni pasta until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the Italian sausage and ground beef, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. Combine the drained rigatoni with the meat sauce mixture, ensuring the pasta is well-coated.
  6. Transfer half of the pasta and sauce mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella on top of the first layer of pasta.
  8. Add the remaining pasta mixture on top of the cheese layer, spreading it out evenly.
  9. Sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella and the grated Parmesan on top.
  10. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, garnished with fresh basil if desired.
