Preparation
- Begin by cleaning 1 pound of fresh mushrooms using a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Slice the mushrooms evenly into ¼ inch thick pieces.
- Create your breading assembly line: place 1 cup of all-purpose flour in one bowl, beat 2 large eggs in another bowl, and in a third bowl, combine 1 cup of breadcrumbs, 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, along with salt and pepper.
- Dip each mushroom slice into the flour, shaking off any excess, then set aside.
- Dip each floured mushroom slice into the beaten eggs, allowing excess egg to drip off.
- Press each egg-coated mushroom into the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a frying pan or deep fryer to about 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place the coated mushroom slices into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried mushrooms to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately with ranch dressing for dipping.
