Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the cubed bread and raisins in a large mixing bowl, gently tossing them together.
  3. In a small saucepan, warm the milk and ¼ cup of butter over medium heat until melted.
  4. Pour the warm milk and butter mixture over the bread and raisin blend and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Add ¼ cup of sugar, the slightly beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg into the soaked mixture and stir well.
  6. Grease a casserole dish and spread the rich pudding mixture evenly in the dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and a knife comes out clean.
  8. For the caramel sauce, combine ½ cup of butter, ½ cup of sugar, and ½ cup of packed brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Stir occasionally until the mixture begins to thicken and bubble, about 5-8 minutes.
  10. Gradually stir in ½ cup of heavy whipping cream and continue stirring until desired consistency.
  11. Mix in 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract into the caramel sauce before serving.
