Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened unsalted butter, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Incorporate vanilla extract into the creamed mixture.
  4. Whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt, then gradually add to the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk or logs, refrigerate for about 30 minutes if too soft.
  6. Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.
  7. If slice-and-bake, slice logs into ¼ inch rounds and place on the baking sheet.
  8. Add sprinkles or colored sugar to the tops of cookies if desired.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are golden and centers pale.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
