Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean mixing bowl, beat three large egg whites on medium speed until foamy, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add ¼ teaspoon of cream of tartar and increase mixer speed to medium-high until soft peaks form, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Gradually sprinkle in 1 cup of granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, then beat on high until mixture is glossy and stiff peaks form, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Gently mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and optional ½ teaspoon of almond extract.
- Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
- Pipe small circles for bodies and slightly smaller for heads on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for about 2 hours until completely dry.
- Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool inside for an additional hour.
- Carefully lift the meringues from parchment paper.
- Assemble snowmen by stacking smaller meringues on larger ones.
- Use melted chocolate or icing to adhere mini chocolate chips for eyes and orange candy for noses.
- Position mini marshmallows for buttons and hats, then sprinkle with colorful sprinkles or edible glitter.
- Arrange cookies on a festive platter and enjoy!
