  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Essential for marinade texture.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Can substitute with canola oil.
  • 1 large onion Can be replaced with shallots for a milder flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic Can use garlic powder if fresh is unavailable.
  • 1 bell pepper Any color works; zucchini or snap peas could be alternatives.
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Change to bok choy or green beans for variation.
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce Swap with hoisin sauce for a sweeter taste.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil Optional but recommended for flavor.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Always adjust to personal preference.
  • Cooked rice for serving Can use quinoa or cauliflower rice as low-carb alternatives.

Equipment

  • Skillet or Wok
  • medium bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine 1 pound of sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix well to coat the beef thoroughly and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned.
  3. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil and toss in the sliced onion and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until soft.
  4. Stir in 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 cup of broccoli florets. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until bright green.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables, add 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and toss until well combined.
  6. Plate your Beef and Onion Stir-Fry over a bed of cooked rice, garnish if desired, and enjoy!
