Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 ½ cups of milk, ½ cup of granulated sugar, and ½ cup of heavy cream and heat until steaming.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 3 tablespoons of cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually pour the heated milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
  5. Pour the custard mixture into a baking pan, then bake for 30-40 minutes until set.
  6. In another bowl, mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of softened unsalted butter, and 2 tablespoons of confectioners’ sugar for the crust.
  7. Press the crust mixture into an 8x8 inch baking dish and bake for about 15 minutes.
  8. Cool both the custard and crust completely at room temperature.
  9. Dust the top with 2 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar before serving.
