- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 ½ cups of milk, ½ cup of granulated sugar, and ½ cup of heavy cream and heat until steaming.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 3 tablespoons of cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Gradually pour the heated milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
- Pour the custard mixture into a baking pan, then bake for 30-40 minutes until set.
- In another bowl, mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of softened unsalted butter, and 2 tablespoons of confectioners’ sugar for the crust.
- Press the crust mixture into an 8x8 inch baking dish and bake for about 15 minutes.
- Cool both the custard and crust completely at room temperature.
- Dust the top with 2 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar before serving.
