Step-by-Step Instructions for Char Siu Chicken
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, Chinese five-spice powder, and sesame oil. Whisk until smooth.
- Place chicken in a resealable plastic bag, pour half of the marinade over, seal and shake to coat. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Cover and refrigerate the remaining marinade.
- After marinating, let the chicken sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange the marinated chicken on it.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden-brown and cooked through.
- Simmer the reserved marinade in a small saucepan for about 10 minutes until thickened.
- After baking, brush the chicken with the thickened marinade.
- Switch to broil and broil the chicken for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes, then slice and serve.
