Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by carefully slicing the large sub roll lengthwise, leaving a hinge intact.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Generously spread the dressing on both sides of the cut roll.
  4. Layer the sliced genoa salami, provolone cheese, smoked ham, and pepperoni on the bottom half of the roll.
  5. On top of the meats, add shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, black olives, and banana peppers.
  6. Drizzle more dressing over the vegetables.
  7. Sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the toppings.
  8. Carefully close the sandwich and compress slightly.
  9. Slice the sub into 1½ to 2-inch sections for easy serving.
  10. Serve immediately or chill for a couple of hours to let flavors meld.
