Method

Preparing Salisbury Steak
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly blended.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each into oval patties about 1 inch thick.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
  4. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F).
  5. Remove the patties and cover them with foil to keep warm.
  6. In the same skillet, add olive oil, chopped onion, and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent.
  7. Pour in beef broth and add Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Mix cornstarch with water until smooth, then whisk into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  10. Transfer patties to plates, drizzle with gravy, and serve with sides of choice.
