Preparing Salisbury Steak
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly blended.
- Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape each into oval patties about 1 inch thick.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F).
- Remove the patties and cover them with foil to keep warm.
- In the same skillet, add olive oil, chopped onion, and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent.
- Pour in beef broth and add Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Mix cornstarch with water until smooth, then whisk into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer for 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer patties to plates, drizzle with gravy, and serve with sides of choice.
