Step‑by‑Step Instructions for General Tso’s Chicken
- Begin by cubing the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour (or cornstarch), paprika, and garlic salt to create your breading mixture. Coat each chicken piece thoroughly with the mixture.
- In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the coated chicken pieces in batches, frying for about 4–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove from pan and drain excess oil.
- In a separate saucepan, combine sugar, water, white distilled vinegar, salt, and soy sauce. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves completely, then bring to a gentle boil.
- Carefully add all the fried chicken pieces into the sauce. Stir gently to coat each piece. Reduce heat and let it simmer uncovered for about 12 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- If desired, sprinkle red chili pepper flakes during the last few minutes of simmering to adjust heat level.
- Serve General Tso's Chicken over rice or alongside steamed vegetables.
